Site praises iconic Motorola handset

An online news resource has continued its look back at some of the most influential mobile phones to hit the market - with a handset from Motorola.
Mobile Gazette states that the Motorola StarTAC, a flip model which first appeared around ten years ago, "was probably the coolest mobile phone on the market" on its release.
It states that its lightweight and small design is on par with the clamshell mobile phones of today and for this reason it could be considered "the first truly modern mobile phone".
The article adds that although it was "fearsomely expensive", the Motorola StarTAC was one of the most pocketable phones of its generation and proved to be a massive hit with business users, partially for this reason.
Mono ringtones, SMS messaging and a very basic address book was about the limit of the phone's capabilities, but the site concludes that this did not stop PC World Magazine naming the device as the sixth "greatest gadget" of the past 50 years.
Last week, Mobile Gazette sand the praises of Nokia's 6310I, which it said the manufacturer has struggled to improve upon in terms of useability.
