NokiaA new article has taken a look back at a handset from Nokia which it claims could have been the best the manufacturer ever made.

First launched in 2002, the Nokia 6310i still remains a firm favourite among retro handset owners. This week, Mobile Gazette states that refurbished models are still much sought after and decided to see why this is the case.

It states that the handset was a "slightly upgraded" version of the 6310 released the previous year and came equipped with a 96 x 60 pixel monochromatic screen and lacked a camera, as well as support for polyphonic ringtones and music.

However, it adds that the 6310i was one of the first from Nokia to offer Bluetooth and also featured support for Java and GPRS, adding that its ease of use has "never really" been matched by the company.

"Whether you think that the 6310i is an old clunker or a design classic is up to you. But we certainly think that Nokia could still learn a thing or two from this ancient mobile phone," the article concludes.

The latest entry into the firm's range, the Nokia N96, has a 2.8-inch 240 x 320 pixel LCD screen capable of handling 16 million colours and - in addition to a five-megapixel camera and media player - has 3G and wireless technology.
