Skype offers new 'unlimited' minutes deals

A new service has been announced from Skype that the company claims will allow users access to "unlimited" global calls for a flat monthly fee.

According to Sky News, Skype users can now sign up for a contract where they can have 10,000 monthly minutes to landlines for one monthly flat rate - with no long-term contract involved.

The calls can be made to any one of 34 destination countries across the world and according to the news provider amounts to over five hours of free calling every day.

Unlimited Country is the first of the packages available and offers this number of minutes free for a fee of £1.95 per month.

The Unlimited Europe covers the same amount of minutes to 20 European countries at a cost of £2.95 per month and for a £6.95 monthly fee, users can access the international Unlimited World package.

Commenting on the announcement, PC World said the move shows that voice over internet telephony is increasingly becoming a global commodity.
