A new award ceremony designed to recognise the best gadgets of 2008 is to take place later this month and feature a Phone of the Year category, it has been revealed.
Stuff magazine - which covers all types of electronic gadgets - has turned its annual "Cool List" into a full-blown award ceremony, it said on Wednesday.
One of the categories will be Phone of the Year, so some of the latest additions to this market could take home the prize.
All of the nominees will be taken from items reviewed by Stuff.tv and the magazine in the past 12 months and the winners will be decided by the experts at the company.
Likely to be featured in the Phone of the Year shortlist is the Apple iPhone, which was recently updated to give consumers a 3G option.
Many consumers queued up at Apple stores to get their hands on the handheld device, which combines iPod functionality, phone and internet.
