OrangeOrange has announced the launch of two smartphones that it no doubt hopes will boost sales for the second half of 2008.

Mobile News reports this week that the network has "scored a smartphone double" by being the first UK carrier to take the BlackBerry Bold and Samsung Omnia to consumers.

It notes that networks including T Mobile, Vodafone and 3 are expected to follow with the Bold and O2 has now confirmed it will offer the phone in time for Christmas.

However, it adds that the Omnia will be available in its 16GB incarnation exclusively to Orange for a six-week period - with other providers having to settle for the 8GB offering during this time.

"The handset strikes many similarities to Apples iPhone not only in looks, but by being sold in two different versions," the site states, but adds that "unlike the iPhone, this device has expandable memory capabilities".

The Samsung Omnia comes equipped with a five-megapixel camera, GPS, FM radio, Wi-Fi and HSDPA and was launched this week with a new viral video campaign.
