The latest mobile phone which uses voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology has been launched by the 3 network.
Skypephone S2 was officially released in the UK by 3 this week and can now be pre-ordered online with handsets expected to be shipped to the carrier's customers from August 27th.
Mobile Burn reports that the new Skypephone S2 can be connected to the Skype system across Europe and when not in use can also function as a HSDPA modem for use with a laptop.
The site adds that the inclusion of a 3.2-megapixel camera "ensures that it's not all business" and adds that microSD support and easy connection to some websites may peak some consumer's interest.
"Social networking is also possible thanks to quick access to Facebook, Google, and Windows Live Messenger," it adds, noting that the phone is expected to be available free on selected 3 tariffs.
PC World said earlier this year that VoIP was increasingly becoming a global commodity.
