Reports that Apple is about to launch a smaller, stripped down version of the iPhone have once again reared their head, it has emerged.
The Mail on Sunday appears to have initiated the rumours by stating that the manufacturer is to release a "Nano version of the hugely successful iPhone" that could be in stores by Christmas.
It was noted that the handset would target the prepaid market, could retail for around £150 and would be available on the O2 network.
"The iPhone 3G has been the fastest-selling phone ever in the UK, but it is too expensive to be a realistic proposition in the pay-as-you-go market," it said, adding that a Nano version would likely exceed this level of popularity.
The newspaper cited one "expert" that said one possible design for the iPhone Nano would involve a touch wheel on the reverse of the phone allowing numbers to be dialled from the back.
However, some have dismissed the reports as hearsay and Phones Review suggests that such a model would be an unnecessary addition to the market.
