Vodafone Sure Signal "impressive"

Consumers in areas with poor mobile coverage may benefit from a new Vodafone gadget called Sure Signal, which was recently described as "impressive".

Stuff magazine reviewed the device, which is a femtocell "packaged [...] up for domestic consumption" and said it represented good overall value, despite being compatible only with Vodafone handsets.

Setting Sure Signal up is easy, as it is simply plugged into the household's broadband router, the publication said.

Working almost like a small mobile station, it picks up your phone's signal, converts it into IP traffic and then sends it via the internet, but the call quality is just as good as normal, with no delay or gl ...

Smartphones 'have uneven worldwide distribution'

Smartphones are increasing around the world, however their geographical distribution is "uneven", according to one industry expert.

Mike Short, president of the Mobile Data Association, said there are too many operating systems which may not necessarily all have an equal "scale and reach".

His comments come after Vodafone recently announced it is set to launch two new handsets to markets in India and Africa.

The two devices named the 150 and 250 are set to sell unsubsidised at less than $15 (£9.50) and $20 (£12.70) respectively and will provide users with the opportunity to access mobile banking.
