Will the Sony Ericsson X10 challenge the Apple iPhone?

The Google Android-powered Sony Ericsson X10 handset will definitely attract customers - but not necessarily those in the market for an Apple iPhone.

This is according to Conrad Longmore, editor of Mobile Gazette, who was asked whether the former will present competition for the latter in the smartphone sector.

He said that although Android 2.0 will certainly tempt consumers, these will not necessarily be the ones who would otherwise buy an iPhone.

"Perhaps the people who should be worrying most of all are Microsoft and Nokia," Mr Longmore explained.

The X10 was unveiled last week in what could be seen an attempt to revive the manufacturer's performance and provide an ...

Jalou 'is compact, practical and unique'

One of the latest fashion-focused handsets to be launched by Sony Ericsson has been put to the test.

The Jewel-shaped clamshell handset comes in three standard colours -black, purple and blue - while another option is the special edition rose and gold version put together in collaboration with Italian design house Dolce & Gabbana.

However, Mr Parkyn said the aesthetics of the device are only part of the story and, although aimed clearly at females, there are some who will find it ideal.

Despite its status as a low-budget music device, one reviewer has said the latest entry to the Walkman range "looks the business".

In a piece for Cnet this week, Frank Lewis praised the Sony Ericsson W395 and suggested those in the market for a budget handset that is well-equipped for audio may find the device to be "an absolute steal".

He explained the model can be picked up for around £48 on a pay-as-you-go option, while sim-free shoppers can purchase it for about £110.

With contract options available at £20 per month, Mr Lewis noted the W395 was "one of the cheaper handsets in the current Walkman range" - but this was not something that c ...

The site's Joseph Hanlon looked at the manufacturer's new HBH-IV840 device and explained that it was a model that stands out from many of its rivals for a number of reasons.

Among these are the slimline design of the gadget and the way it can be used without the need for an ear hook - something he added gives the headset "a subtlety and elegance most […] sorely lack".
