The latest network to join O2 in offering the Apple iPhone 3G in the UK has announced a new deal to boosts its social networking facilities.
Orange explained this week that as part of a new deal struck with Twitter, its users will now be able to access their accounts for the purpose of uploading images as well as receiving and sending updates.
The network's head of product management in the UK Mark Watts Jones said it was clear that the micro-blogging website had changed the way people connect and consume news.
"We're delighted to extend the value of the service by bringing it to mobile," he added.

Countdown begins to Orange iPhone launch

There are now seven days until the Apple iPhone 3G and Apple iPhone 3GS models are available on the Orange network.
November 10th is set to see the smartphone become accessible to customers via another provider other than O2.
Orange said it plans to offer the handset online, via Phones4u, Carphonewarehouse and in retail shops.
In addition, it has created "great value" Pay As You Go and Pay Monthly price plans for those who want to have thousands of apps at their fingertips and combine their favourite music collections with their mobile.

Orange says Brits need not miss the classics

Brits on Orange tariffs need never miss a classic movie again, the network said this week.
The company did so while highlighting the results of a recent survey it conducted to promote its Orange Wednesday 2 for 1 offer, which enables customers to receive a free cinema ticket.
The poll found that while 46 per cent of people have fibbed about seeing a film to impress their peers, men are more likely to tell porkies when it comes to movie knowledge.
Nearly one in five Orange users who said they had watched mafia classic The Godfather actually had not, it discovered.

Motorola DEXT to be Orange exclusive

Following the announcement of the Motorola DEXT last week, Orange has revealed it will be its exclusive carrier in the UK.
According to the network, the South Korean manufacturer's new device - which is its first to feature the Google Android operating system - will fit nicely into its recently-acquired futuristic models.
Francois Mahieu, director of devices for Orange in the UK, explained the Motorola DEXT builds on this line up and reflect the firm's commitment to delivering such innovation to the British market.

Plans announced for T-Mobile and Orange merger

Orange and T Mobile have announced plans have been set into motion to form a single network in the UK.
Both operators issued a statement today via their respective parent companies - Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom - that explained what this might mean for consumers.
If the two UK mobile networks do join forces, they would be able to control around a third of the UK sector - something which could ignite the interest of the Competition Commission.

Orange Social Life 'might be copied'

A new service that was announced this week by Orange could spawn a number of copycats, it has been suggested.
In an article posted on the CCS Insight Blog, Paolo Pescatore said the network may be on to a winner with its new Social Life web page, but said consumers should not expect things to end there.
He noted a number of operators and manufacturers could move to adopt the model and begin developing their own versions - with firms like Vodafone cited among the most likely to do so.

Welsh mobile phone heads to Orange

A new mobile phone is set to be launched next month that is the first to operate fully using the Welsh language.
Orange announced this week that from September 1st, its customers will be able to get hold of the Samsung S5600 on pay-as-you-go and contract - and will be able to enjoy its many special features.
The device is not only equipped with menu facilities that are entirely translated into the native tongue of Wales, it also boasts predictive text messaging for the language.

New music tariff launched by Orange

Orange has announced a new partnership with 4Music and Universal to bring more audio facilities to its pay-as-you-go services.
The deal brings a service called Monkey to consumers that promises the ability to not only listen to their favourite tracks, but also create content and share their playlists with others.
In addition, "hundreds of thousands" of songs will be made available, as well as access to the latest music news and exclusive content via an online community platform.

Orange announces DRM-free music services

Orange has made an announcement which may be of interest to those looking to purchase one of its latest mobile phones.
With a host of multimedia devices currently available - such as the Nokia 5800 and Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition - the network has enhanced its online retail outlet.
From now on, the Orange Music Store will feature content that is without the restrictions of Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology - meaning they can be transferred between phones, PCs and mp3 players more easily.
More than 700,000 tracks will be involved in the move, including songs from Universal and EMI's back catalogue, as well as artists from smaller, independent labels.
