Child protection mobile service developed

A mobile service aimed at protecting children from offenders has been developed by two companies.

Mobile communications firm aql and Crisp Thinking – a child safety organisation – have created a device designed to increase the safety of children who own a handset.

Crisp founder Adam Hildreth said the unique technology will allow certain words from a child's text message inbox and sent messages to be sent to a screening engine and checked.

He added: "Crisp technology is at the forefront of cyber bully and predator detection and we're excited by the prospect of going mobile."

O2 aims to change perception of young people

O2 is aiming to change the negative perception that people have of youngsters which could then drive sales of its mobile phones.

The handset manufacturer has unveiled a new £5 million scheme called Think Big after research noted there are 46 per cent of adults who have a pessimistic view of adolescents in society.

Ronan Dunne, chief executive of O2 UK, said the operator is trying to help change the views people have of juveniles today by empowering them to make decisions for themselves.

O2 named fastest operator for mobile internet in London

O2 provided the quickest mobile phone web page access in London compared to four other operators, according to recent figures.

It took the SIRODA testers 1.7 seconds on average to access a page on the web when using O2's mobile internet.

The speeds of five networks were compared over 60 days at 150 locations and concluded that the British company was speediest in London in January 2010.

The operator was also shown to be the fastest on average when someone is downloading a music track in 12 out of 20 British cities.

O2 to 'advertise tickets to more customers'

O2 has joined forces with Shazam – a music discovery tool for handsets - to make its adverts for Priority Tickets more widely available to customers.

The phone giant is set to advertise its unique ticket system on the Shazam Apple iPhone application.

With the network's offer customers can buy tickets for gigs and events up to 48 hours before they go on general sale.

The new advertisement is designed to work alongside the app so that if someone is listening to a Taylor Swift song, for example, and she is playing at the O2 Arena or an O2 Academy then an advert will come up to promote the event.

O2 "delighted" to welcome Azzurri

O2 is extending its brand after joining forces with a managed services company.

Azzurri Communications, which deals with voice, data and mobile contact centre solutions, has helped O2 branch out further towards being a "leading connectivity brand" as well as a mobile brand.

Mobile phones such as the Blackberry - of which models include the 8520 Curve and the 8900 Curve - and iPhone will now be available as resources to the managed services company's customers.

O2 announces network investment

O2 has announced plans to make improvements to its network and boost its customer facilities.

The carrier explained this week that it had a number of projects in development that would benefit subscribers that was being backed by significant financial investment.

According to the company, this will include the opening of 200 new sites across the London region alone in the next 12 months, with 40 of these set to be ready before Christmas.

It went on to say the changes would cost "hundreds of millions of pounds" and a spokesman for the firm explained that this would not be the first time it had made such moves in the service of its users.

Mobile phone network O2 has announced the addition of internet radio functionality to its Joggler home media device.

Sally Cowdry, marketing director at the network services provider, says: "We have focused on what customers have told us they want."

As a result, internet radio has been added to a line-up of features that includes a photo viewer, news capabilities, music and video playback and an in-built calendar.

Those looking for a mobile broadband solution may welcome the latest announcement from one UK network.

O2 has unveiled details of a new offer that will couple one of its most in-demand touchscreen smartphones with a number of its internet packages.

O2 responds to Orange iPhone announcement

O2 has responded to this week's news that it will now not be the exclusive network for the Apple iPhone 3G S in the UK.

It was revealed on Monday (September 28th) that Orange had entered a partnership with the manufacturer of the smartphone that would see it become the second operator for the handset across Britain.
