The future of mobile broadband could be boosted by the introduction of new technology under review by one industry watchdog this week.
According to Ofcom, a report has been issued that will look at the functionality and practicality of utilising unwanted radio waves to improve web services across the UK.

The way in which technology is advancing has impacted how we get online, it has been advised.
According to a spokesman for broadband.co.uk, a site that provides advice and support for consumers looking to hook up to the web or change their provider, products like the Apple iPhone 3G have revolutionised the sector.
Edd Dawson, editor of the publication, explained that handsets and other services were developing at such a rate that portable internet access was now commonplace.

A new report has proved how important the latest phones and mobile broadband technology are to the general public, it has been asserted.
Following the publication of a study by Virgin Media that looked at increased anxiety in the absence of web-connected gadgets, a spokeswoman for Stuff Magazine has commented on the issue.

The popularity and success of a recent online event could mean good news for mobile broadband subscribers, if one expert is to be believed.
According to a spokeswoman for media data specialist group Screen Digest the online broadcast of England's football match against Ukraine was a big hit and could change the way people watch in the future.

With mobile broadband, 3G technology and wirelessly-equipped gadgets now everywhere, one expert has looked at the benefits of the systems.
John Dunn of Techworld said smartphones were one of the first ways in which Wi-Fi was able to penetrate the mainstream market, as people required a simple way to connect to the web while on the move.

Report: Leeds top for mobile broadband

The city of Leeds has the highest number of mobile broadband users in England, according to a new report.
Ofcom found that 29 per cent of residents use this method to get on the web.
In Scotland, 22 per cent of consumers in the Highlands and Islands have mobile broadband, perhaps because other types of connections can be unreliable or non-existent in remote locations.
Swansea is the top place in Wales at 18 per cent, while in Northern Ireland only eight per cent of households overall utilise a dongle to go online.

Orange unveils £5 mobile broadband deal

Orange has unveiled a mobile broadband deal set to be available for under £5.
Consumers who are light users of the internet have been targeted with this new product, which provides an allowance of 500 Mb per month for £4.89.
Included in the 18-month contract is a free Huawei E160e dongle that doubles as a memory stick. It is available in pink, white and black.
Speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps are available with this deal, which the network said is "perfect" for users who "just want to email and surf the web during the day".

Supplying employees with mobile broadband and phones can be a good way to encourage staff morale, it has been suggested.
A spokesman for Star, a UK-based independent business connectivity provider, said remote working could help small to medium-sized businesses cope by making its workers happy.
Martino Corbelli, marketing director at the firm, explained that the extra level of freedom and flexibility such an initiative provides will encourage staff to be more attentive to the needs of customers.

O2 launches 'dongle amnesty'

Mobile broadband customers are being invited to trade in their old dongles and try out the services of O2.
The network - which is also the exclusive carrier of the Apple iPhone 3G S in the UK - announced this week that it would be holding its first amnesty of the devices across its retail outlets in Manchester.
Between July 17th and 30th, people will be able to call into any of the stores in the city and hand over their existing dongle - in exchange for an O2 Pay & Go gadget.
