Mobile gamers offered a slice of American Pie

Mobile phones gamers could soon be taking part in the latest entry into the American Pie movie franchise.
Pocket Gamer reports the teen sex comedy has been given a title of its own by publisher Digital Chocolate and has reviewed it on the Sony Ericsson K810I, although it is available for other mobile phones.
American Pie: Naked Run, allows players to take part in a series of nude or semi-nude sports events, all the while trying to score points and avoid being arrested by the police.
Characters from the original movie, including Jim, Finch, Stifler and Jim's dad make appearances and the review notes this helps add humour to the game.

Text messages overtake voice calls

A US survey has found that text messaging has overtaken voice calling as the communication method of choice for those with mobile phones, the Wired Blog Network reports.
The study, conducted by market research group Nielsen, showed that the number of SMS messages sent by the end of the first half of 2008 had increased by 450 per cent in comparison to the same period in 2007.
It was noted teenage mobile phones users between 13 and 17 years old were the most active text messagers, sending an average of 1,742 per month, compared with the average user's 357.
The second-highest age group was 18 to 24-year-old users, who were found to be sending around 790 texts per month.

Consumers 'against mobiles on planes'

A new survey has found that most air passengers are against new technology that will allow mobile phones to be used on planes.
The research, put together by market analysts at Synovate and reported by AFP, found that 77 per cent of international flyers would support a ban on mobile phones in-flight.
Synovate's study covered respondents from the UK, as well as the US, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany and the United Arab Emirates.

Orange to move into TV?

Orange could be the next mobile phones network to begin offering on-demand TV services.
Iptv-news.com reports that Orange will oversee the launch of the service either by the end of 2008 or early next year, having already had success with its offerings in Jordan.
The network operator already has a partnership with Greek telecoms firm Intracom Telecom that provides the city with content.
The news comes as Virgin Media announces that it has seen the number of people using its on-demand TV services grow significantly.
Virgin Media recorded 45 million on-demand-programming requests during August, which mad.co.uk reports are 11 million more than in January.

Music downloads for mobile 'set to soar'

Sony Ericsson's announcement that it is to offer a new music download service has been followed with some good news for the company.
A survey conducted by TNS has revealed that an estimated 2.1 billion tracks could be downloaded between its PlayNow portal and that of rival Nokia by UK mobile phones customers.
The report showed this figure, in particular when compared with the 1.5 billion legal music downloads in Britain during 2007, could "mean big business for mobile operators", cellular-news comments.

Samsung offers new 8mp model – its official

Samsung's rumored eight-megapixel rival to LG's Renoir has been made official, Pocket-Lint reports.
The site notes that it had predicted the South Korean manufacturer would make an announcement with regards such a handset and has confirmed that it has now done so with the phone expected to be available on November 1st.
The model, which is to be known as the Pixxon or M8800, will be Samsung's second eight-megapixel camera phone and takes the Renoir's title of being "the world's slimmest phone with this resolution of camera".

A legendary Italian car manufacturer has entered the world of mobile phones, according to reports.
Pocket-lint states this week that Porsche has got together with budget handset maker Sagem to offer a new line of mobile phones that have looks at the forefront of their design.

Site predicts 11 Android Apple bashers

A recent article has listed 11 ways in which Google's Android platform is better than the operating system (OS) running on Apple's iPhone 3G.
Following the launch of the T Mobile G1 in New York last week, Tech Radar's Dan Grabham states that not only will Android be a more open OS, allowing for a wider selection of apps, but will be better integrated with Google's existing web features.
Mr Grabham adds that Android also appears to be "incredibly fast" and adds that better hardware could mean that the iPhone 3G could soon "be playing catch-up".

Arcade classic to debut on G1

An arcade classic will become one of the first gaming applications to be available on the upcoming HTC G1.
Owners of the handset, which is built in conjunction with T Mobile and is the first to feature Google's Android platform, will be offered a free version of PAC-MAN - a game which has been around for over 28 years.

Sony Ericsson to launch new music service

Sony Ericsson is the latest mobile phones manufacturer to announce details of a new music download service.
Mobile Burn reports that the company is set to launch a rival to the recently unveiled Nokia Comes With Music service and existing options such as Apple's iTunes with a new product called PlayNow.
The unlimited music downloading service will not only go head to head with its competitors on price, but will also draw on a large back catalogue of artists.
