Three times the choice on Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola
Posted: 30 October 2009
Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola have all made the choice a little more difficult this week for shoppers looking at new mobile phones.
In addition to an upgrade to its associated software, the first of these three manufacturers unveiled the N97 mini, a smaller version of the smartphone of the same name it launched earlier this year.
Jose-Luis Martinez, vice-president of Nokia's Nseries range, said early feedback on the revised handset had been positive and that he expected people to enjoy the "pocket-friendly size" of the gadget.
Elsewhere, 3 Mobile announced it would be offering the Sony Ericsson Satio on its network, allowing customers the chance get their hands on the firs ...

Posted: 29 October 2009
An upcoming mobile phone from Motorola has more than just the Apple iPhone 3G S to worry about, if a new article is to be believed.
In a piece for GigaOM this week, Stacey Higginbotham and Om Malik looked at the various traits that make the manufacturer's Android 2.0-enabled DROID worth looking out for.
Although many have suggested this could be the latest gadget to challenge the iPhone, the pair suggested it is one of its predecessors that the touchscreen smartphone will have to outdo.
Having shifted more than 100 million units, the popularity of the Motorola RAZR is noted as a milestone that the DROID will have to surpass.
The mobile was one of the first ultra-slim models on ...
Nokia E52 'steals N-series limelight'
Posted: 28 October 2009
The Nokia E52 is a handset that may be capable of stealing the limelight from the firm's other devices - if just for a moment, it has been noted.
Niall Magennis said in an article for Trusted Reviews this week that very often it is the likes of the N97 and N900 that take up the column inches, but this particular E-series model is also worthy of attention.
This is because the gadget looks like a simple candybar style option, but in fact carries the type of email and document editing functionality that might appeal to business users.
For this reason, Mr Magennis described the E52 as "a smartphone for those people who don't really want a smartphone", adding: "The fact that i ...

New Samsung delivers on web
Posted: 28 October 2009
A new handset from Samsung may be short in some areas, but delivers a "fantastic" web experience, one expert has advised.
Ricky Cadden noted in a piece for Mobile Burn this week that the South Korean manufacturer has equipped its budget touchscreen SGH-A887 model - which is also known as the Solstice - with some impressive internet facilities.
He said the photographic and multimedia options of the handset were something of a let down, but added the compact and stylish package came with a web browser that is "one of the best we've seen on a non-smartphone ever".
Mr Cadden's words were, however, contradicted in an article posted on the Cnet website earlier this year, w ...

NBA title reviewed for iPhone 3G
Posted: 27 October 2009
A new basketball game has been made available for the Apple iPhone 3G that one reviewer has put to the test.
In a piece for Pocket Gamer this week, Tracy Erickson looked at NBA Live and noted that with all 30 of the US league's teams available, this is a release that could be popular with fans.
The lack of a multiplayer is something that was noted as a shame and the writer expressed hope that this would be included in the next title in the series. However, the gameplay was highlighted as something that may prove popular.
Ms Erickson said this facility was particularly easy to get to grips with, as "a context-sensitive analogue stick" can be used to enhance what is "a simp ...

Those in the market for new mobile phones may welcome the comments of Edward Chester, who explained in his most recent piece for Trusted Reviews that the low-cost model was worthy of note.
He explained this is because the South Korean manufacturer has continued to bring products like this to the market, noting that this particular entry in its range was "a fine example".
