Palm Pre
Forget your preconceptions. Forget what you think makes a phone great, and prepare to be stunned, by an unprecedented phone that tears up the rulebook and writes its own. Say hello to the unbelievable Palm Pre.It's not uncommon in the mobile world, that whenever a device is announced, it will inevitably get compared to other mobile phones on the market, to similar devices , the ones it's going to supersede. Sometimes, though, a mobile is announced that defies comparison, as it's so absolutely new and unprecedented. That's exactly what's happened with the Palm Pre, a device unlike anything seen before!
Web OS
Central to the unprecedented nature of the Palm Pre is the new interface, WebOS. What a beautifully designed and elegantly simple interface it is to use, too! Apps are opened with a range swipes and gestures on the screen (or even via the touch-sensitive case below the screen). It saves all your data for you, as well, so that wherever you get up to, you never have to manually save anything. On top of that, the Palm Pre allows you to multitask loads of different tasks at once, using a system of virtual 'Cards' on screen, one for each function, so you could, for example, listen to tunes whilst surfing the internet, or watch a video, but start up the 3 megapixel camera to grab a pic of something exciting, before you go straight back to the movie. It's quite simply the most user-friendly, flexible interface seen on any phone!
Total Synergy
Of course, it isn't only about sleek looks with the Palm Pre, as the interface is designed to allow 'synergy' within applications. For instance, take the phonebook. You can set it to instantly grab your contacts from diverse places such as Googlemail or Facebook, and it can then put the data for each person, wherever that data was pulled from, into one contact file, so you don't have to worry about searching through duplicate contacts to find the one you need. The same will be true of email and messages, and whilst we're talking about that subject, messaging is made into a genuinely rewarding experience, thanks to the built-in QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard on the Palm Pre, though, serves another purpose, letting you use something called 'universal search'. You just type in what you're interested in, and the phone will search your contacts, your software, AND the web, to get you what you need, whether it's train times, or an online article, or someone in your phonebook. No switching between features to find information, you simply type, and the Palm Pre does the hard work for you!
It's also a good thing that that the WebOS that lies at the centre of the Palm Pre also comes wrapped in a shiny, effortlessly beautiful shell, meaning that the phone is as much of a joy to gaze longingly at as it is to use. And finally, there's a feature making its grand first appearance: the Palm Pre is the first commercially-released handset to use wireless charging. There's no need even to plug a lead in to charge it, you just place it it on top of the charging plate. Now, that is unprecedented, and it's just more evidence of a single, central fact: the Palm Pre is just one of the most advanced and intelligent mobile phones that's ever been made!
