Latest Nokia C7 News
Nokia C7
With Nokia gearing up to release high-end MeeGo phones, Symbian has become their OS of choice for mid-range smartphones such as this, the Nokia C7. This doesn't mean that Symbian has been dumbed down, though; no, the Nokia C7 is proof positive that mid-range phones are getting smarter!
p>Design - 8/10
The Nokia C7 shares a similar design ethos as earlier non-touchscreen phones like the E71. This is no bad thing, as the E71 was a particularly nice-looking phone, although it was a little conservative for some tastes. Nevertheless, the Nokia C7 is a good-looking phone, in an understated way, although the swooping curves in the design may not be to everyone's taste.
Operating System - 8/10
The Nokia C7 includes the latest version of Symbian (Symbian^3), and while it is still a powerful and versatile OS, it does look and feel a little dated. This means that, despite the fact it can easily match them for performance, the Nokia C7 doesn't feel quite as modern as its rivals. This is a shame, as it may put some people off, although it should be noted that Nokia plan on continuously updating the OS on their Symbian phones, which presumably includes the Nokia C7. So, to summarise, it's very good, but if you are focusing on the look and feel, you might not appreciate it as much.
Hardware - 10/10
There is really not much to find fault with in the Nokia C7's hardware. As with other Symbian phones, it doesn't need a 1GHz processor, and so the Nokia C7 has a 680MHz chip, instead, the performance of which (when running the more streamlined Symbian OS) isn't that far off the performance of 1GHz superphones. The Nokia C7 also includes 8GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot, which is definitely above par for a mid-range phone. When judged as a mid-range phone, the hardware is enough to give the Nokia C7 a ten in this category.
Camera and media - 8/10
While the 8MP camera in the Nokia C7 is good, it is a shame that it uses a fixed focus lens. Of course, as the Nokia C7 is a mid-range phone, it could be argued that a fixed focus camera is the norm, but as other mid-rangers have autofocus, there's no reason why the Nokia C7 couldn't have that. So, while the 8MP camera is good, the lack of autofocus is a disappointment. However, the fact that the Nokia C7 has a TV-Out port allows it to make up some extra marks.
Screen - 9/10
Now the Nokia C7 has a chance to make some marks up, because for a mid-range phone, its screen is superb. The Nokia C7 has a 3.5 inch Super-AMOLED screen, and it includes Nokia's ClearBlack technology. As such, despite the slightly lower screen resolution, it never fails to impress. The Nokia C7 might not compete with the real big hitting superphones, but for a mid-ranger, it is very impressive.
Social - 8/10
It's been said in previous reviews that although Symbian is good, it doesn't have as many social features as other operating systems, and the same is true of the Nokia C7. It does have a social-networking widget, but the layout of the Nokia C7 makes it feel a little cramped, compared to other social smartphones. So, the Nokia C7 does include social networking features, and they are solid and dependable, but they don't blow us away as they have on some other phones.
Overall - 9/10
The Nokia C7 is an incredibly solid and reliable, mid-range smartphone, and as such, it is smarter than the average mid-ranger. But we can't help but feel that the Nokia C7 is getting away with a fair amount, because it's a mid-range phone. The big-hitting superphones on the market outclass it in every single way, but that doesn't really matter, because in its class, the Nokia C7 is a very good phone indeed.
