You might recognise the design of the Land Rover S1, since it's the successor to the original Sonim XP3 (more commonly known as the JCB Tough Phone). You'll certainly recognise the cyclopean construction, and believe it or not, this hardcase amongst mobile phones has been made even tougher! So, the Sonim Land Rover S1 is, from the official specs, dust-proof, but more than that, it's gone beyond splash resistance, and it's become waterproof, down as far as 2m!
Toughest Phone
Ah, but it doesn't finish at that; the Land Rover is just flexing its muscles. It can survive a fall of 2m onto a solid concrete floor and it's resistant to fog, salt, and moisture in the air, and it'll work perfectly in a range of temperatures from -20C to +60C! Not only that, but the tests that prove it'll work in harsh conditions are designed by the US Department of Defense, which means that, well, the Sonim XP3 is essentially a military-spec phone!
Surprisingly for such a rock solid, deliberately basic mobile phone, the Land Rover actually has some really useful features that make it nice to use, like an uprated speaker for ringtones that are audible in even the loudest places, the ability to connect a separate antenna, to increase the signal strength, and the fabulous Opera Mini browser to give you proper web usage. The biggest plus point of the S1 has to be the 2 megapixel camera, in the past "Tough Phones" haven't had a camera so this is a real leap forward. The Land Rover S1 also has built in GPS. So, if you need a phone that's virtually unkillable by conventional methods, the Land Rover S1 is your perfect phone!
