Nokia N803 user guide leaked

Could the Nokia N803 be the successor to the Nokia N8? Judging by a leaked user guide of a Symbian operated smartphone it would appear so.

The outlines of the device looks like the phone will be camera orientated much like the Nokia N8 although we don’t know the details of the camera just yet.

Apparently the Nokia N803 will run on Symbian Belle with a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 3.5 inch WVGA resolution, NFC, HDMI and DLVA. The phone may get unveiled at next year’s Mobile World Congress.

Vertu Constellation T – the most pointless Symbian smartphone ever

If you were Nokia, right, and you’d announced that you were scrapping Symbian, what would be the most pointless way you could give the old OS a send off? You’d stick it in a Vertu phone and charge some oil baron eleventy billion quid for it! Simples! Yep, it’s time for me to do another mini-rant about luxury phones, but this time, brilliantly, I can combine with a rant about Nokia and Symbian.

You have to take joy in the small things in life, right? Anyway, what we have here, is a phone called the Vertu Constellation T, and according to IntoMobile, it’s the Nokia N8, with the camera from the Nokia E7, stuck inside a really stupidly ostentatious, , stupidly overpriced, over the top body. Yeah, great send off, really, innit? (more…)

Nokia 703 will be the Finnish manufacturer’s first Windows phone?

Right then, we all saw that Nokia “Sea Ray” leak, a few weeks back, and we likely all wondered what it’d actually be called, after it got released. Well, apparently, today, we might have a better idea of what its final name is, thanks to WMPU. It seems it’ll be following the brand new numbering scheme that Nokia’s come up with, and its final name will be the Nokia 703. And that tells us something intriguing, and possibly slightly encouraging (or discouraging, depending on your viewpoint)…

Y’see, we know how Nokia’s numbering scheme works, don’t we? Specifically, we know that the first digit in the number tells us what tier the phone sits in, with ’1oo’ being the lowest spec. What’s odd is that this isn’t a ’900′-class device… (more…)

The world’s BIGGEST stop-motion film, made with a Nokia N8

Stop-motion animation is a bit of a lost art, these days, after the advent of CGI (unless you’re name’s Aardman Animations, that is). So, it’s rather awesome to see this little video, ‘cos not only is stop-motion, it’s the biggest stop-motion movie ever made. And it was made using the Nokia N8

Yes, everything you see there is life-size. How did they do it? Simples! They found a beach, took three of the super-powered Nokia camera phones up on massive cranes, and got creative. Annnnnd the results speak for themselves… (more…)

The N9 is finally announced… officially!

Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia has announced its latest smartphone device, the N9.

Rumours have been flying around recently suggesting what features the new handset would house, however Nokia still had a few surprises in store.

The device runs on the Nokia’s Meego operating system and, although based on its predecessor the N8, the latest creation has moved away from featuring a physical home button in favour of an all-screen design. The home screen is instead accessed with a simple swipe gesture performed on the display.

This button-absence means the N9 can pack a larger and more impressive 3.9 inch AMOLED screen, which is made of curved Gorilla Glass with anti-glare polarisation technology.

Another missing feature is the slide-out QWERTY keyboard which was previously predicted, meaning the handset is smaller, slimmer and can be used with just one hand. It does, however, feature an 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, which is capable of shooting HD video.

Storgae is also not an issue with the N9 as it comes with either 16GB or 64GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM. Near Field Communication technology makes an appearance too to ensure that this handset is ready for contactless payment.

Six European countries (including UK) will get the Nokia Windows phone first

Ooh, here we go; another day, another snippet of info about the first Windows phone that Nokia will be releasing. There’s no specs, or anything, but the latest bit of info does confirm when (well, roughly, anyway) and where it will be hitting shelves first. According to WMPoweruser, the first Nokia phone running on WP7 will hit shelves in six European countries first, before going worldwide.

The best news is that we are one of the six countries. The UK, along with France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, will get the phone before anyone else. The only odd thing about this announcement is the fact that Finland (y’know, where Nokia are from) is not one of the six countries… (more…)

Nokia Windows Phone will, apparently, ‘blow your socks off’

Hmm, now then, here’s a thing. Waiting for Nokia to announce their first Windows phone is a bit like waiting for Christmas (i.e. loads and loads of anticipation, with that nagging feeling it may all end in crushing disappointment), so any titbit of info is going to get lapped up by, well, everyone. I understand that feeling, believe me; I’m exactly the same when it comes to news about Mass Effect 3.

Anyway, the point is that today, we’ve heard… well, alright, it’s not even a titbit of information, it’s Nokia’s Dave Trevaskus teasing everyone on his Twitter feed, saying, “This device will blow your socks off!!”

So, what could it mean? (more…)

IM for Nokia

Daniella Posted on: June 10th, 2011

It looks like Nokia is trying to compete with Apple’s iMessage and RIM’s BBM, with its new instant messaging service called IM for Nokia.

The rather unimaginative name sounds a bit dull but the app itself sounds quite the opposite, pulling in several instant messaging services such as Google Talk, Ovi Mail, Yahoo, Messenger and My Space IM all into one app.

The app is free to download from the Ovi Store and is available for the Nokia X6, E7,5230 and the N8. Nokia says the app will be pre-installed in future handsets.

Nokia Oro – a Nokia C7 in stupid, ostentatious clothes

Right then, folks, time for a phone I can’t see the point of. What we have here is, when you get right down to it, a Nokia C7 that’s been made silly, by drowning it in leather and gold, and it’s called the Nokia Oro. As you may have guessed, my big question, with regards to the phone, is why? Nokia keep doing this every now and then, most notably with the 8800, and I never see the point of it, since they’re going to be selling the phones to a niche market, at best.

And a thought crosses my mind: maybe, just maybe, the manufacturer would be better off if they spent the extra money, and used the people who worked on the Oro, to make a proper high-end phone, that grabs everyone’s imagination? (more…)

HTC Bresson – 16MP Windows Phone 7 handset on the way?

TechnicalMarkus Posted on: May 18th, 2011
Posted by: TechnicalMarkus in Mobile Phone Blogs, Windows Phone blogs

Okay then, we’ve hit the 12MP benchmark, when it comes to camera phones, so the question is, where do we go from here? Well, the sensible people may well suggest that what needs to happen next is for lenses and other bits of the camera to be upgraded, since they’re the weak links in camera phones.

But that’s never as fun as having bigger and bigger megapixel counts, so let’s instead look at the rumoured HTC Bresson, that’s being talked about on Pocketnow. The HTC Bresson is rumoured to be coming soon, it’s rumoured to run on Windows Phone 7, and it’s rumoured to have a ginormous 16MP camera. I’m also guessing it’s named after French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, which’d make sense, when you think about it. (more…)
