You've raised an interesting point there, and I forgot to mention it in the review. I know the HTC TyTN II, and you're right, Windows Mobile isn't its best in that phone. It doesn't even compare to the X1, which is immeasurably faster and more powerful.

I've no idea how they've changed the innards of the X1, over previous Windows Mobile handsets, but the flicky, fluid scrolling in Opera Mobile on the X1 IS genuinely more fluid, and smoother than the iPhone.

And believe me, I was shocked by that, too!

I'll have to disagree with you Mark. I've got a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone (HTC TyTN II which might I add is god awful; slow and buggy) as well as an iPod Touch Firmware 2.0 and the Safari experience absolutely thrashes the Opera Mobile hands down. Admittedly I haven't tried the X1 or Touch HD and so I can't comment on how much improved their fluid scrolling capability is but it's going to have to be a massive amount before I would even begin to consider having another Windows Mobile device. This is my 4th, I must be a sucker for punishment as the experience seems to be perpetually bad. May the Lord give me an iPhone with 5MP Camera and a Flash and I'll become the happy, hippy, Mac loving fanboy I love to hate.
