If the Apple iPhone had not come out there would be no app store channel, according to a magazine
Tim Green, executive editor of Mobile Entertainment, praised the phone manufacturer for its applications store.
He said: "They designed it from the bottom-up to work seamlessly with that device. It’s very quick, easy to pay for; the whole thing just works and it works for the developers."
Mr Green added that other app stores, such as Nokia’s Ovi "just don’t work very well", despite the Finnish mobile phone maker recording record application downloads in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Nokia users are now downloading more than one million apps a day from the Ovi Store, meaning its net sales – £10.4 billion – are up 22 per cent on the previous quarter.
This follows on from predictions by Gartner that forecasts mobile application stores will surpass more than 4.5 billion downloads in 2010, with around £3.8 billion spent by consumers.
