Wireless internet and mobile broadband technology is proving popular with consumers for a number of different reasons, it has been advised.
According to a spokesman for Techworld, an online publication which offers news and reviews relating to the latest developments in the IT and electronics sector, the future of Wi-Fi is looking bright.
John Dunn, editor of the website, explained that recent reports showing a growth in the popularity of the technology has been a long time coming, but is reflective of its inherent benefits.
"[Mobile broadband and Wi-Fi is] a winner because it’s mature, cheap and is used by PCs the world over. It has transformed the home networking market," he added.
Figures published by ABI Research last week showed one billion Wi-Fi chipsets are set to be shipped during 2011, with the system now being seen incorporated into a number of smartphones, netbooks, laptops and other devices.
