A new survey from Vodafone has warned consumers to be careful with their mobile phones this Christmas.
The study looked at what kind of ways people communicate over the festive period and found that 18 per cent of people have sent a text message they regret following drinks at a Christmas party.
It was noted that the highest number of offenders in this category were mobile users in Sheffield at 30 per cent, with people in Glasgow either better equipped to handle their booze or just more cautious at five per cent.
Other troublesome texts that were identified in the study included "I won’t be home late" and "be there in a minute" – which were considered the two most likely to also be untrue.
Commenting on the findings, comedienne Lucy Porter said: "Christmas is a linguistic minefield and an entertaining time for communication."
However, AT&T research released earlier this year suggested that Valentine’s Day was the most popular holiday for sending an SMS to a loved one.
