Vodafone ensure charities ‘receive more’

Vodafone is making sure that charities receive more money when consumers make a donation by text message.

The operator announced 90p of every £1 text message someone sends to charity from a Vodafone handset will go to a good cause. The remaining 10p covers network and third party costs.

Libby Pritchard, head of corporate responsibility at Vodafone, said the new system will make things easier and simpler for people to give money to a good cause.

She added: "Research by nfpSynergy has shown that people understand there may be a small charge however they chose to donate."

The World of Difference programme is giving 500 people the opportunity to undertake a placement at their favourite charity and Vodafone will pay each charity £2,500 to support a lucky volunteer.

This news comes after Vodafone was honoured for its security award – Secure Remote Access solution – by a section of the government communications headquarters last month.
