As surprising as it seems, what you’re seeing here are not toys, nor fake promotional items. According to Engadget Mobile, they are, in fact, genuine mobile phones that transform into honest-to-god robots! (Well, robot figures, anyway)
Now, any long time readers (or anyone who recognises my avatar to be Ultra Magnus) will know that I’m a massive, big, huge Transformers fan. So, news of actual transforming mobile phones, that actually work as mobile phones, and actually turn into killer robots will have me gibbering with excitement.
Made by Toshiba, and released to tie in with a new show featuring robotic “Ketai Sousakan” phones, the 815T PB mobile phone is 3G-enabled, with 3 megapixel camera, and is generally not half bad as a phone. Apparently, according to other sites featuring the phone, it also comes with a kit that you basically glue on the back of it, to give it arms and legs.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on, you have to glue bits on to make it into a robot?! Well, that’s not a Transformer, then, that’s a, a… Glueformer!
Still, the idea of owning a phone that has arms and legs is pretty cool, since they will most likely fold up to make like it’s transforming, anyway. Ooh, and get this, the whole thing is given a slightly creepy Tamagotchi vibe since the phone is supposed to simulate artificial intelligence, and can communicate directly with you.
Ok, granted, Optimus Prime, or Nokia N82, it ain’t, but you can’t beat a bit of robot-y goodness…
Hmmmmmmm, I wonder if I can convince people here to buy me one to, erm, “review” it…
*innocent whistle*
