Announced in July, the Sony Ericsson W902 is due to be unleashed on the public in the coming months… so it’s time to take a look at this little beauty, so you can see why people are getting so excited about it.
Something you see a lot with Sony Ericsson mobile phones is something I’ve decided to call ’sister-phones’. Basically, whenever Sony Ericsson release a mobile phone in one series, you can pretty much guarantee there’ll be another phone built on the same platform and chassis, in another series, just like with ships (Titanic/Britannic or Mauritania/Lusitania). So, say Sony Ericsson chuck out a successful Cyber-Shot mobile phone, you may well see a Walkman version of the same phone.
And that’s why we’re excited about the Sony Ericsson W902, because its sister phone, the one it’s built from, is the Sony Ericsson C902. And that’s a Cyber-Shot phone (and a really nice one, at that…)
You may have spotted where this is leading now…
The Sony Ericsson W902 is therefore the first Walkman phone to inherit Cyber-Shot camera technology, and despite Sony Ericsson wanting to insert a huge big dividing wall between their product lines, the Sony Ericsson W902 is just one tiny step away from being the world’s first ever CyberWalkShotMan mobile phone!
Alright, granted, the name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but it means you get all the good bits from both series. So, the Sony Ericsson W902 inherits a brilliant 5 megapixel camera, photo flash, autofocus, and basically the same top-end camera bits that the C902 has. And then, from the Walkman side of things, it inherits the latest Walkman music player, which is a good thing, because in that player, you get Shake Controls (which is brilliant) and SensMe (which is even brillianter, because you just tell the Sony Ericsson W902 what mood you’re in, and this clever little mobile phone automatically picks suitable songs based on their tempo and vibe)!
Incidentally, I have no idea how it does that last bit (I suspect some form of voodoo), but dear lord it’s clever!
And then, on top of the music and the camera goodies, you still get HSDPA internet access, you get cool little touches like a step counter, and you get that accelerometer to spin the screen round when you hold the Sony Ericsson W902 on its side.
Basically, if there’s any doubt about it from my write-up so far, as far as I’m concerned, the Sony Ericsson W902 flat-out rocks, because you get in it is, in effect, the C902 with the added bonus of getting the Walkman music player built in!

It sure enough is a little beauty. And I am also pretty sure that it will rock, as you have said.
