The Sony Ericsson Vivaz handset is the first ever one to feature continuous autofocus on its high definition video recording and has been reviewed by a gadget expert.

Stuff magazine said the function was “very quick” when tracking a moving subject and “smooth” HD videos can be uploaded to websites such as YouTube as soon as they have been shot.

The 8.1-megapixel camera – which includes touch-focus and Smile Shutter modes – is a “pretty mean photographer” that takes “vibrant” pictures and is particularly good in lowlight conditions.

The compact “stylish little smartphone”, which features the manufacturer’s human curvature design, feels comfortable when holding it in the palm of your hand and is “immensely pocketable”.

It runs on the Symbian Series 60 operating system and the magazine claims the handset could be the smallest HD recorder it has seen.

Other offerings from the manufacturer include the Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro, which features a touchscreen and qwerty keyboard and a Facebook application.
