The Sony EricssonSatio and Aino handsets helped the manufacturer to increase sales by 500,000 in the last quarter of 2009, new figures show.
But the Swedish phone company suffered a 40 per cent decrease in sales from 2008 to 2009, citing a "faster than anticipated shift to touchscreen phones in the mid-priced sector of the market".
The phone giant took €1,750 million (£1,524 million) in the fourth quarter, compared to the third quarter sales of €1,619 million.
Sony Ericsson recorded an increased average selling price during quarter four of 2009 by five per cent.
Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson, said the company would seek to improve its brand based on an "exciting portfolio of mid and high-end products".
He noted the recent launch of the Android-based Xperia X10 as one of the phones that could return the company to profitability and insisted the company is "on the right track".
The Xperia X10 touchscreen handset was unveiled in November 2009 and features a 8.1-megapixel camera.
