Patents are great. Occasionally, you find a real gem in the patent applications. Occasionally, you find something completely stupid.
And occasionally, you find something that’s both… just like this! Yep, that’s right, Sony Ericsson have filed a patent for a phone (or phones, looking at the pic) with a windscreen wiper on it. Well, a screen wipe, anyway. but windscreen wiper sounds funnier…
The slidephone version is pretty easy to figure out, it’d just be attached to the back half of the slide, THROUGH the front half. It’s the version on the flip phone that looks cool, since it appears to be attached to a belt and pullet type arrangement.
Very cyberpunk, that.
Yep, this is one of those patents that I kind of can and can’t see the usefulness of it. I’ll tell you what, though, no matter how useful it is, it’s really rather cool. Made me smile, anyway.
And it’s certainly better than my rendition of a screen wiper for phones:
