The number of visits to Twitter and Facebook via mobile internet by Opera mini users has increased significantly, according to a new report.
Facebook, founded in February 2004, has been named the most visited social network site on mobile internet, according to Opera’s state of the mobile web report.
Microblogging site Twitter was named the fastest growing after its usage increased by 2800 per cent in a year.
The report found that Facebook usage increased by more than 600 per cent during 2009, which meant it overtook Russian social networking website Vkontakte.
Jon von Tetzchner, co-founder of Opera Software, which produces web browser technology, said that the success of Facebook and Twitter had not let up even though consumers devices change.
He added: "Fortunately the divide between the mobile web and the web accessed on PCs is now disappearing. People want to use the same sites, regardless of whether they use a phone or PC to access those sites."
