Our own news section put up a story, today, about a new phone called the Samsung Genio, a touchscreen phone aimed very squarely at the teen market. However, the Samsung spokesman in that news story was, to say the least, a bit vague about what it’s actually like. So, I have taken it upon myself to find out some more details about what this ‘fone 4 da kidz’ is like.
So, I have put my detective hat on (it’s a proper deerstalker, and everything), to find out some details about the Samsung Genio.
And the first fact is: if you want to know more about the Genio, you have to use the original name they were going to use, the Samsung Corby. As in the town in Northamptonshire, that coming from my direction, is just past Peterborough. Frankly, after having done a gig in Corby, I can see why they changed it. Put it this way, I’m used to seeing bar fights at the end of the night’s gig, but not usually when we’re setting up at 7pm…
Oh, and lest we forget, it’s also the name of a trouser press…
But anyway, from the name Corby, we get the model number ‘S3650′. And then, with that, I can find out the full specs.
So, what can we expect from the Samsung Genio?
Well, first up, since it’s for da kidz, it comes in a range of, er, vibrant colours, officially known as Jamaican Yellow, Cupid Pink, Minimal White, and Festival Orange. And I have to be honest, I quite like the orange one. Specs-wise, don’t expect anything like the Samsung i8910 HD, obviously, since you’re looking at a 2MP camera, and a 2.8 inch screen. Not a patch on most modern smartphones, but then, it’s not meant to be. It’s more a touchscreen social networking phone, hence why the Genio’s got things like Facebook and Twitter apps, and a Youtube widget.
So, there, in a nutshell, is the Samsung Genio. It’s a touchscreen fone 4 da kidz. But, of course, this being Samsung, they’ve made it into a bleedin’ nice touchscreen phone…
Are you a Genio fan? Do you like the funky looks, and the social apps? Leave us a comment and have your say!

I find the touch screen on this phone is pretty handy, for texting, and this is my first touch screen, well worth the buy! you can get a genio with a qwerty keypad, without a touch screen, its in fones4u, or you can get the genio pro with a slide under qwerty and the touch screen is still there, but as far as I’m aware, this is only available on contract at the minute. as regards to if you’ve got free internet access already, then you’ll still get it on this phone, unless your sim is from an iPhone, then as soon as you put it in a different phone, you don’t receive your free internet.
P.S I’m an 18 year old male and find this phone perfectly suited to me, so I don’t see it as just being a child’s phone.
