After weeks of me mithering about the fact there’s been no news on the UK release of the Palm Pre, our first tantalising glimpse of what might be the release date has popped up on Softpedia.
Will it be released over here in September…?
Well, actually, it’s from a source in Romania, who says that it’ll be on sale in Romania and other parts of Europe in September, but since the UK is part of Europe (despite what UKIP would have us believe), one can only hope that it does mean a release date for us, too.
Of course, many of you will remember the earlier rumour, which states that since Telefónica are going to be distributing the phone throughout a big chunk of Europe, and since O2 is part of Telefónica, that would make the Palm Pre an O2-exclusive when it hits these fair shores.
I’m still a bit annoyed that it’s an O2-exclusive (if, indeed, it actually is one), because O2’s signal round me is a bit bobbins, and I reaaaaaaaaaaaally wanted to have a play with the Palm Pre. I guess I’ll have to wait until one of my mates buys one, borrow it to do a blog review, and conveniently leave town for a few weeks.
Oooh, that could be fun, I’d feel all dangerous, like Ned Kelly and stuff!
So, we’ll have to wait and see if this rumour pans out, and if the Palm Pre is indeed headed to the UK in September. I’m still betting on a Christmas release, though…

well this will line up well with what we’ve been saying about the iphone going multinetwork – as per the slip from vodafone of september. Apple are hardly going to want you to choose between iphone and the pre, and i doubt palm would want that either.
of course it could go totally different and the pre could end up on orange or something lol

Yup, it’s looking like the iPhone going cross-network is getting more likely with each bit of news we hear.
As for the Pre being on O2, if Telefonica have got it, it’s a dead cert it’ll be on O2. It’s just a question of whether Telefonica HAVE got it…

They did, you’re right, but I suspect that was just somebody with a test GSM unit, who put their own sim in.
Or, like you say, Voda have got exclusivity somewhere else.
