Nokia‘s mobile mapping system has been given a revamp that the company claims will make it simpler to use for website developers.

The Finnish manufacturer announced this week that the Ovi Maps platform would now come with a host of improvements that would make integration into other areas easier.

Utilising vector graphics among a number of other enhancements, Nokia’s vice-president of social location services Michael Halbherr said it could even "redefine how we use our mobile devices".

"This is the first step toward an ecosystem where developers can access Nokia’s unique contextual assets," he added.

It has been revealed that the Ovi Maps Player API is one of the changes that the firm says will provide this in a simple and effective way.

One handset that could benefit from the revised system is the upcoming Nokia N97 – which the group originally announced last year and described as "the world’s most advanced mobile computer".
