It has emerged the device, which is available in Black, Vandyke Brown, Anodizing Silver and Elegant Gold, has been a big hit for the company – with plans for more variants on the way.

The South Korean manufacturer – which recently launched the Arena multimedia device – said the Cookie had been popular thanks to its affordability, style and range of features.

Dr Skott Ahn, president and chief executive of the group, said: "We wanted to allow more people to benefit from the advanced touch technology that we introduced in previous touchscreen handsets."

The phone also goes by the name of the LG-KP500 and is equipped with a three-inch touchscreen display, three-megapixel camera, integrated media player and video recording facilities.
