A new service that was announced this week by Orange could spawn a number of copycats, it has been suggested.
In an article posted on the CCS Insight Blog, Paolo Pescatore said the network may be on to a winner with its new Social Life web page, but said consumers should not expect things to end there.
He noted a number of operators and manufacturers could move to adopt the model and begin developing their own versions – with firms like Vodafone cited among the most likely to do so.
Mr Pescatore added that this particular carrier was already rumoured to be in the middle of a "massive overhaul" of its Live! offering and firms like Sony Ericsson could also start similar handset options.
He concluded by saying Social Life would prove valuable for a number of reasons, including the potential for greater traffic, more advertising and the ability to "retain subscribers as social networking continues to spread in 2009 and beyond".
The new Orange facility is accessible via the company’s mobile web page and links user accounts from sites like Facebook and MySpace.
Will you use the service?
