An increasing number of operators and mobile manufacturers are turning to online stores to tempt consumers, it has been advised.
In an article for Telecoms.com this week, one industry expert has highlighted the number of firms that are setting up facilities for people to download the latest applications direct to their devices.
Rob Dalgety, marketing director of Mformation, said the most recent of these is Vodafone – which revealed plans for a software and content portal that follows similar announcements from Orange, O2 and the Carphonewarehouse.
He added this was reflective of an industry capable of providing the latest systems to cater for an increasingly demanding market.
"End users are demanding a more personalised, PC/internet-like mobile experience – one that includes flexible access to a diverse selection of applications and services," he explained.
Fans of Apple’s online portal – the App Store – were advised this week that the latest incarnation of the iPhone, known as the 3G S, would offer faster services than its predecessor.
