O2 has responded to this week’s news that it will now not be the exclusive network for the Apple iPhone 3G S in the UK.
It was revealed on Monday (September 28th) that Orange had entered a partnership with the manufacturer of the smartphone that would see it become the second operator for the handset across Britain.
Since then, a post has appeared on the O2 Blog addressing the announcement and stating that despite the move by Apple to take away its iPhone exclusivity, the relationship between the firms "will be an ongoing success".
The group added the one million-plus customers it has who use the gadget "remain very important to us" and with the recent addition of the Palm Pre to its line up it would endeavour to remain "the home of smartphones".
"We also offer award-winning customer service and benefits, which is why more people choose O2 than any other network in the UK," the post concluded.
An article for Cnet this week also highlighted a recent Ofcom study looking at mobile coverage in the UK for 3G – which showed Orange may be able to provide stronger support for the iPhone than its rival.
