O2 provided the quickest mobile phone web page access in London compared to four other operators, according to recent figures.
It took the SIRODA testers 1.7 seconds on average to access a page on the web when using O2′s mobile internet.
The speeds of five networks were compared over 60 days at 150 locations and concluded that the British company was speediest in London in January 2010.
The operator was also shown to be the fastest on average when someone is downloading a music track in 12 out of 20 British cities.
Simon Page, from SIRODA, said there has been a rise in consumer interest for the quality that networks provide.
He added: "This nationwide survey reflects actual customer experience in the places where data is in most demand. Regularly testing in this way helps identify areas for investment."
Earlier this week Virgin launched new mobile broadband packages from £6 each for people who want to access the internet from anywhere in the European Union.
