A Nokia application allows users of the company’s mobile phones to keep track of a unique space mission from their handsets.
The Red Bull Stratos app has been created to allow owners of Nokia mobile phones to check on the latest news from an ambitious record-setting attempt.
A post on the Nokia Conversations online community site explains that Felix Baumgartner, a world-renowned skydiver, is attempting to freefall from 23 miles above the surface of the Earth.
He is expected to reach almost 700 mph – becoming the first human to break the sound barrier unaided in the process.
A previous skydiver to attempt a space jump, Colonel Joseph Kittinger, is in the support team on the project.
He jumped from 19 miles above the Earth almost 50 years ago, giving him unique insight into the new attempt.
The 0.11 MB free download of Red Bull Stratos is available at the Ovi Store, offering videos and pictures of the mission along with facts relating to the science behind the jump.
