After a wait of what seems like 3-and-a-half years, the Nokia N96 is finally available to buy! This is a good thing, because a lot (and I means a LOT…) of you have told us you want to know more about it, and get yourselves one. Well, now you can!
This is definitely one of those occasions when I look at a mobile phone and go, “Yup, that’s gonna sell by the bucketload.”
Let’s remind ourselves why.
Basically, the Nokia N96 is the brand new flagship handset of Nokia’s top-end Nseries mobile phones, taking over that exalted position from its predecessor, the Nokia N95 8Gb. in terms of design, the Nokia N96 takes its inspiration from elsewhere, however, specifically from the N81. Truth be told, put these two Nokia mobile phones next to each other, and you’d be a few minutes deciding which one was which!
The features-list of the Nokia N96, though, is straight out of the N95 8Gb, albeit with even more stuff. The first big difference you’ll see between the features of the two mobile phones is in the memory, as on the Nokia N96, it’s been doubled up to 16Gb. Good job too, because with Nokia’s patented media software, and N-Gage gaming and downloads, you’ll need space to fit your stuff on.
Other features that have been ported over from its predecessor are the 5 megapixel camera, GPS and HSDPA built into the Nokia N96.
However, it’s with media that the Nokia N96 properly comes alive, not least because it it’s first mobile phone in the history of mobile phones to let you both watch AND download video from BBC iPlayer (the iPhone only let you watch it, before you ask), right out the box, ready installed and ready to go.
