Nokia N900 – the most awesomely over-elaborate unboxing ever

Nokia N900 - the most stupidly awesome unboxing video everNow then, we’ve all seen unboxing videos for mobile phones, and in general, they’re either reasonably good, or pretty dire. What we have here, today, however, is the most stupidly awesome unboxing video ever seen by man. It’s for a Nokia N900, but before you get your hopes up (which you will after seeing the video, it’s not for the retail Nokia N900.

Nope, what we have here is something else entirely, presumably a phone sent out to developers and reviewers, to build up some massive anticipation, because… well, just watch, you’ll see why within the first 4 minutes…

Yes, the box has a USB port on it. And yes, you have to hack the box, to open it. That may possibly be the coolest box I’ve ever seen for any product ever. Like I said, though, don’t expect to see that on the retail N900, because 1/ no-one in the general public will be able to figure out how to open it without a run-up (or possibly a hammer); and 2/ it’d cost Nokia a fortune. I also very strongly suspect you won’t get a free pair of Bluetooth headphones, a USB memory card reader, a bit of Christmas cake or a plastic model of a fox (‘cos it has a web browser based on Firefox, get it?) in the actual retail box.

However, you do get one hell of a phone, as you see later on in the video, when he fires it up, and shows off Maemo, the Linux-based OS that’s made the Nokia N900 one of the big phones of the year. It looks to be a proper cracker, that OS, that’ll easily hold its own against the likes of Android and the iPhone.

In short, I want to play with one. And I want that same USB hackerbox. Look, Nokia, I’m even invoking the ‘pretty please’ picture (you all know the one I mean by now)…

Pretty pretty please

Awwwwww, how can you resist a face like that?
