Nokia’s Illuvial mobile phone contributed well to its sales figures over Christmas, Carphonewarehouse told Reuters.

Roger Taylor, chief finance officer at the mobile phone retailer, said Nokia is "back with a vengeance" and noted LG’s BL40 Chocolate phone and Research in Motion’s Blackberry as good sellers during the festive period.

He highlighted that the Apple iPhone has "set the bar" and that "everyone is going hell for leather to jump over it".

The good news is no-one can stand still, not even Apple." "It’s quite an exciting pipeline for the year ahead."

Apple is set to launch a new product on January 27th, believed by many to be a tablet-style computer and Fox News has reported that the event will also "likely focus on" an iPhone 4.

Mr Taylor stated the large demand for high-technology phones was positive news.

The Finnish giant’s Illuvial collection includes the Nokia 5530, 6303 and 6700.

The 6700′s features include a five-megapixel camera with flash and video recording, and a metal keypad.
