A new Nokia handset designed to target fans of sites like Facebook and MySpace has been put to the test.

Mobile Burn’s Ricky Cadden put the Finnish manufacturer’s 6790 Surge under the microscope this week and drew attention to the many features which may make it a tempting option for those who communicate via social networking portals.

With a two-megapixel camera onboard, the device is not at the top-end of the photography-focused mobile market, but it does boast a software system that allows rapid video and image uploading.

In addition, Mr Cadden said a slide-out qwerty keyboard has been fitted to the model, while Nokia’s decision to "bless the 6790 Surge with plenty of onboard RAM and internal storage" was also something worth consideration.

However, those on a budget were also advised this week that 3 Mobile‘s new social networking-focused INQ Mini 3G would be available next month free on contracts, while pay-as-you-go users could expect to pick one up for around £59.99.

Which of the two would you go for?
