Nokia 5800 vs iPhone 3G: the battle continues in Italy

Comparisons between the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and the Apple iPhone 3G have continued following one writer’s recent visit to Italy.

In a piece for the CCS Insight Blog, Paolo Pescatore reports that having visited friends and relatives in the country, a quick visit to the high street threw up some interesting points about the two devices.

Firstly, he notes the 5800 forms part of the Comes With Music offering in Italy, something that has been rolled out in Singapore, Australia and Sweden for the phone, yet surprisingly not the UK.

Instead Nokia chose the 5310 XpressMusic and N95 8GB for the service and Mr Pescatore says it would make sense for the 5800 to be equipped with it in Britain.

However, he adds that from speaking to the locals, it is clear that "everyone wants an iPhone".

"Italy is one of the few countries where the iPhone competes directly with the Nokia 5800 Comes With Music package," he adds, noting the outcome of desirability versus free music will be interesting.

The service allows free access to a catalogue of music for one year to those who have paid a package price for the handset.

So, which would you go for?
