The Mobile World Congress (MWC) has began today (February 15th) with new handsets and agreements unveiled.

A Wholesale Applications Community was set-up by 24 telecommunications operators in order to try to build apps which will be available to all mobile phone users.

And a new Android handset from Motorola was among those unveiled to the worldwide public.

The Barcelona-based event saw the announcement of an agreement by a group of networks, which together has three billion customers – to build a platform of apps.

LG Electronics, Samsung and Sony Ericsson are also in support of the group’s plans.

In addition, the Motorola QUENCH handset, a full-touch device complete with virtual qwerty design, was unveiled at the MWC.

It is the eighth device out on the manufacturer’s Android portfolio and made its debut at the event alongside others from the company, including an Android 2.1 handset called the MILESTONE, which will be available from mid-March.
