New mobiles ‘should balance functionality with gadgetry’

New mobile phones need to combine functionality with the latest in technology, it has been asserted.

Matt Bancroft wrote in an article for TMCnet that there is little point in modern handsets coming equipped with all kinds of integrated gadgetry if they are not easy to use.

He explained that the diversity that can now be found in the range of applications today’s phones offer should be matched with practical user experience and consumers should not just be won over by impressive gimmicks.

"The device itself may seem to be highly usable, but if the ability to send and receive email […] is complex to set up and use, that will negatively affect the perception of the overall usability of that device," Mr Bancroft added.

Of course, one option for those who feel they have purchased a device that is not suited to their needs is to consider trading up to one of the latest models – such as the LG Arena KM900.

Which devices do you think achieve this balance?
