With the launch of the Viewty Smart, LG hopes it will be able to recreate the success of the original device.
Launched in 2007, the new phone’s predecessor went on to sell over 6.5 million units – and the South Korean manufacturer believes the improved model could tempt buyers.
The Viewty Smart, which also goes by the name of the LG-GC900, has been equipped with an eight-megapixel camera with Intelligent Shot Mode.
Dr Skott Ahn, president and chief executive of the firm, said: "Viewty is back and better than ever, with new smart camera applications that take care of all the complicated camera adjustments and processing for you."
In addition, the new model uses LG‘s S-Class user interface and is compatible with HSDPA and Wi-Fi. Also on board is A-GPS geotagging, 1.5 GB of internal memory and support for MicroSD cards.
Mobile Burn reported last week that the electronics company’s German website had posted a story confirming the new name for the phone – which had previously been known as the Viewty II.
