Three innovations have been created to help reduce mobile phone crime were revealed today (February 12th).

The i-migo is one device created which can lock the handset and make an alert sound if the gadget is moved out of a certain range, while Bluetooth technology allows the back-up of data.

Another innovation is called the tie solution, which protects data so that if the phone is stolen it cannot be used with another sim card because the device is password protected with encryption.

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology – which means the user can swipe the handset like an Oyster card to pay for items – is used for another innovation called TouchSafe.

When a transaction is made using NFC a small card is touched against the phone to enable the sale as part of the TouchSafe technology.

Natasha Stokes, editor of Mobile Choice magazine, said the "market for mobile security will increase due to need – as smartphones become more widespread".
