Mobile internet has become so popular because of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, according to a magazine.
Natasha Stokes, editor of Mobile Choice, said that people searching for addresses while they are out and viewing social networks on the go explains recent mobile phone internet figures.
Facebook was the top site uniquely viewed by people on their handsets with just under five million users logging on to the page in December 2009, according to Global System for Mobile communications Association statistics.
The research also found that 16 million people used the internet on their device, spending 4.8 million minutes online and viewing 6.7 billion websites.
Ms Stokes also added that she thought the type of thing people were searching for would become more diverse "as mobile internet becomes more accessible, faster and available on a wider range of handsets, to include banking and media such as TV and YouTube".
