The way in which technology is advancing has impacted how we get online, it has been advised.
According to a spokesman for broadband.co.uk, a site that provides advice and support for consumers looking to hook up to the web or change their provider, products like the Apple iPhone 3G have revolutionised the sector.
Edd Dawson, editor of the publication, explained that handsets and other services were developing at such a rate that portable internet access was now commonplace.
"If I’ve got my iPhone with me it is much quicker to check a website on my phone than it is to go and get a laptop and boot it up," he added.
However, Mr Dawson concluded that it was unlikely traditional home computing would be phased out any time soon as people will always need a deskbound connection for everything from schoolwork to social networking from the home.
O2 announced a new iPhone package this week that allows the user to pay £9.79 per month to get access to various home broadband options.
