Microsoft has designed an application for a Google Android mobile phone for the first time.

The Microsoft Tag reader acts as a mobile barcode scanner and enables the handset’s user to scan a specific image via the phone’s camera and it will give the consumer a link to a website.

It is similar to a QR code scanner, which enables people to download the software and the phone can identify an image which then navigates the consumers to a web page related to the graphic.

There is no new technology required, it is simply a downloadable feature.

Users interested in having the free app will be able to do so from the Android store, however it is available for other major handsets such as the Apple iPhone.

Google recently developed a new function for its Android-powered mobile phones called the Gesture Search, designed to help consumers save time when searching for a contact to ring.
